On Saturday morning, during the celebration of Simchat Torah, we woke up to a new and terrifying reality. Under a heavy barrage of thousands of rockets and missiles fired towards Israeli towns and cities from the Gaza Strip, large groups of terrorists infiltrated the Israeli border. During the surprise terror attack, hundreds of Israeli civilians, including women, elderly, and children, were murdered, wounded, and it appears that hundreds more were kidnapped into the Gaza Strip.
Small military forces units that managed to reach the combat zone in towns close to the border succeeded in blocking and neutralizing many terrorists. However, in many cases, it was too late for the residents of these areas, and these small communities were almost wiped out. The communities where terrorists were blocked early on, were those with local civilian seucirty volunteers that were able to react in the critical moments and join forces with the military later on.
In light of the current events, In the town of Tzofim, located near the security barrier half a mile from the Palestinian city Qalqilya, we are desperately trying to equip our civilian security force and medical force.
Our community"s security and medical volunteers currently lack basic equipment like protective vests, flashlights, goggles, first aid kits and security cameras in order for them to respond to surprise terror attacks. Unfortunately Saturday morning events have taught us once again the importance of a capable civilian response.
Another aspect that we wanted to insure is the medical welfare of the residents of this settlement and our neighbors. For that, we have created a first responder medical team from different fields in the medical world to build a field hospital that will deal with all the wounded and any other medical scenarios. To succeed, we need help in gathering medical supplies and specialized equipment.
The State of Israel is strong, and we will prevail once again, as hundreds of thousands of reserve soldiers mobilize. But at this moment, we desperately need your help with equipping civilians on the home front.
